About making money on the blog and the broader "content"

Ideology vs. Economics ...

Published Thursday, 15 January 2009 by Luke Jarzembowski

... That is my view of the very stormy, touchy, controversial and reflective about - making on blogs.

About making money on blogs has probably told everything. That "bad", that "people are selling," that "can not be" that "the market does not grow up / not ripe," etc., etc. Few, however, understands that the money which could persist bloggers do not take the sky . Advertising is an investment advertisers, which should he return with a vengeance!

There are people who keep blogs for pleasure or for the idea. There are also people who blog just want to make money. But najśmieszniej comes when people from the first group they want to go to the second group. One succeeds ( Antyweb he sells ads, Mediafun for some time had a sponsor in the form of company Agito.pl), and others receive those flowers .

Two features of advertising (not just on blogs)

Ads - especially the Internet - must meet one basic function - they must sell. Additionally, you can identify a function of additional / ancillary, which leads to the sales only indirectly (Immeasurably) - the function of representative roles / branding.

In the Internet advertising's selling feature is noted on the basis of best affiliate programs . You'll receive just compensation for the sale - in the form of commission.

The function of branding carry all types of banners on the pages / portals. Few people not a few, and even fewer carries target sites for NOA , but a lot of people saw them and thus remember the brand. After a few / dozen "obejrzeniach" ads you recognize the brand, and after a few / ten - maybe buy something.

The problem with advertising on blogs

The problem with advertising on blogs is that bloggers set out any advertising at home and want to be treated as paid as advertising sales, while the media houses and advertisers have treated them as advertising on portals - wizerunkowo (in Implicit - very effective).

The solution to the problem of both groups are - or at any rate - affiliate programs . But to bloggers received from them a satisfactory income, affiliate programs must satisfy several conditions:

  1. should not assume functions of branding - animated banners with the addresses of the promoted sites should not be the only way to promote products / services. It is good to give as many opportunities of promotion, but the direct links and the ability to create your own creation (eg, tailored to your blog) should be treated as an absolute minimum;
  2. percent commission to be honest - it's brought blogger client. Why spend money on campaigns risky, since customers (through blogger) "they come? The greater the percentage of commission - the more interesting bloggers. Really do not understand why the Golden Thoughts can give 40% commission (from the printed books
    de facto

    about 26%), and acting in a similar way (the publisher of the seller's own website) and Helion OnePress gives only 5%?

  3. commission should be eternal - the command should give the client a long-term gains publisher - otherwise never hear that "a blog can really make money";
  4. should be up to a large number of affiliate programs - in fact, about which product / service, blogger does not write - it should be able to command for a commission;

Ideally every shop and Internet service provider offered a partnership program with the commission of around 50% margin. But before that happens, still a lot of water in the Vistula has elapsed, and during that time will still be vulnerable to speculation in the advertising market on-line and subsequent cracking "Internet bubble".

I think the almost-ideal situation (ie the main "revenue from ads" will be "revenue from affiliate programs) will still take 10-20 years. Until then the market will evolve through various indirect forms of compensation (PPC - Pay Per Click, PPL - Pay Per Lead), and finally you can not complicate this simple truth and will reward you just make the sale.
